Cookies and Browser Storage

Cookies are small text files that a website places on your device and that your browser sends back on later visits. Websites can also place entries in your browser's storage (localStorage and sessionStorage); these stay on your device and are not sent to the server automatically. This policy covers both.

What We Use

FreelancersHome uses only cookies and storage entries that are technically necessary to operate the platform. We do not use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies and do not embed third-party services that set cookies.

Essential Cookies

• __Secure-better-auth.session_token – sign-in: keeps you signed in after you sign in. Lifetime 7 days, extended while you use the platform.
• __Secure-better-auth.session_data – session cache: a signed copy of your session data, such as name, email address and role, so that not every page view has to query the database. Lifetime 5 minutes.
• NEXT_LOCALE – language: stores the language of the page. Without sign-in it is set only when the language of the page you open differs from your browser's language setting or from a previously stored language, and it ends when you close the browser. On sign-in it is set to your account language and then lasts up to one year.
• __Secure-better-auth.admin_session – administrators only: while an administrator is signed in on behalf of a user to investigate a problem, this cookie keeps the administrator's own sign-in. Such a support session ends after one hour at the most. The cookie is deleted when the administrator ends the support session, otherwise after 7 days at the latest.

Browser Storage Entries

• Your choice in the cookie notice (localStorage): stores whether you chose “Accept All” or “Reject Non-Essential”, so that the notice does not appear on every visit. This entry is not a cookie and is not sent to the server. It stays until you delete it in your browser.
• Color scheme (localStorage): once you switch the display, stores whether you chose the light, dark or system display. The entry stays until you delete it.
• Entries for the lifetime of a tab (sessionStorage): for example drafts of your entries in the compliance wizard, so that they survive a page reload; they are deleted when you submit or close the tab. If email confirmation is switched on, your email address is also stored after sign-up so that you can request the confirmation email again; this entry is deleted when you close the tab.

No Analytics, No Tracking

We do not use third-party analytics, statistics or advertising tools and do not load content from third-party servers; we also serve fonts ourselves. The statistics on profile visits shown to freelancers set no cookies of their own; they are described in the privacy policy.

Cookie Notice

On your first visit, FreelancersHome shows a notice about cookies. Since we use only essential cookies, your choice currently does not change which cookies are set; only the choice itself is stored, as described above.

Managing Cookies

You can view, delete or block cookies and browser storage entries at any time in your browser settings. Without the sign-in cookie you cannot sign in; without the language cookie the language is determined from the page address or your browser.
